Winter Escapades
The Berkshires can be a winter heaven with numerous outdoors winter sports. Ski the slopes for a day of fresh powder at Bousquet Ski Area, Butternut, Catamount or Jiminy Peak. Other fun favorites are snow shoeing at Canterbury Farms or cross-country skiing and skating in various locations in the Berkshires. Right around the corner from Palmer Brook Lake is a small family friendly alpine skiing area called Otis Ridge.
Cultural activities don’t stop in the winter. For rich chamber music, attend a performance at St. James Place. Enjoy live comedy performances at the Mahawie Theater in Great Barrington. The drama at Shakespeare and Company and the dance performances at Jacob’s Pillow are also all year-round entertainment.
Outdoors Activities
If the fishing, nature hiking, boating and hunting at Palmer Brook aren’t enough, the surrounding area offers a variety of other outdoor activities for the entire family.
• The Berkshires boasts some of the nicest 18 and 9 hole golf courses in Western MA so pick up your sticks and get ready to tee off.
• Both children and adults can enjoy the dramatic zip lining adventures and tree top aerial adventures at a number of nearby adventure parks.
• Learn to whitewater and go on an adventure or take your family or friends out for a relaxing, fun filled guided canoe trip on the Houstanic River.
• For fun and leisure, the Cranwell Golf & Spa Resort is 15 minutes away from Palmer Brook Lake.
Camps and Activities for Kids
Children will have the opportunity to make new friends and learn new skills during the summer months. From the athlete to the artist to the scientist, the Berkshires has everything to keep children busy. Older high school students can attend various residential writing programs at Bard College at Simon’s Rock. Children of all ages can enjoy hands on nature activities at the Berkshire Nature Camp at Pleasant Valley. STEM, robotics and engineering are taught at the Flying Cloud Institute. Young Rockers learn music at the Berkshire Community College and kids from 7-18 can explore Shakespeare’s language, stories and characters at Shakespeare & Company’s Riotous Youth Summer Theater Program. Traditional overnight or day camps provide children with camaraderie and fun. Premiere sports camps from land and water sport to ice hockey are also available.
